Sherlock (2002)

 

Why?

For a good amount of time, my sole goal was to watch all the Sherlock movies that were on Tubi. I think I might have reached that goal. I will not talk about all of them, but this movie really struck a cord so here we are.

What in the world?

Sherlock must track down an opium trader killer before all the opium traders are dead I guess. He doesn't like opium traders, but he likes a serial killer even less.

Personal thoughts

This movie was going fine until Sherlock was having female relations. I really didn't like this trait of Sherlock's. It's a known fact that Sherlock was never a womanizer and that he had a distinct distrust of women. He had so much sex though. I did not find that very amusing. For some reason, he would also get flashbacks after having sex. I don't know why he had those and why he had the same one so often. Maybe to pad out runtime I don't know. I did like how it was kind of a Watson and Sherlock origin story though. I just really hated this movie.

I have to give this movie a 2 out of 10. Maybe I have this image of Sherlock in my head and it corrupted my experience, but I am entitled to my opinion. Sherlock hit on almost every single woman he encountered in the movie. I don't know why. The one time he was drunk, but every other time he was sober. I did find the dedication to finding the killer intense though. I mean he thought he killed this guy around 3 times in the movie and it was getting pretty tiring. I think I would have just let fate spin along at that point and let him get away with it after a while. Yeah I would not make a good law enforcement or private detective. 

Fun Fact

I thought that this movie was riding off of the success of the very much acclaimed BBC Sherlock since the guy looks a lot like Benedict Cumberbatch in my opinion, but that's not the case. This movie actually came out 15 years before the BBC one. That was probably the most interesting thing about this movie.

Theatre of Blood

 

Why?

This movie came highly recommended by my mom, so I just had to watch it.

What in the world?

An actor that feels he did not get what he deserved goes on a murderous rampage against those that he believe plotted against him.

Personal thoughts

This movie was crazy. I thought the premise was really interesting and then when I found out that his killings were SPOILER based on plays he had done during the play season, I was fascinated. That is just such an interesting idea for a serial killer. The plot twist at the end of his henchman really came out of left field and was interesting. I would never have been able to guess it. The dog murder in the movie was very strange. I mean he killed some stuffed animals. One part that really made me laugh though was the fencing scene. I mean the fact that they were fencing and jumping on floor trampolines was just such a strange thing to watch. I am upset about how the movie ended though.

Score

I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. There was a lot of murder, but I thought that was interesting. The homeless people of the movie were really a lot though and that kind of took me out of it. I do think that the ending is a main reason that the score is kind of low. SPOILER! I think Vincent Price should have murdered everyone and got away with it. I know I know he was crazed and raving mad, but I grew attached to his dedication and creativity. Call me crazy for that if you must.

The Raven

 

Why?

Usually I have a movie playing as background noise while I read, but this movie just stole my attention right away.

What in the world?

A sorcerer must confront another sorcerer to get his wife back that he believes has died. He learns this information from a raven.

Personal thoughts

The campiness of this movie was just really great. I think that's what kept my attention the entire time. I mean the whole thing was just amazing. The visual effects were super good, but you also have to consider that the movie is from 1963. One thing that was kind of disappointing in the movie was that the raven wasn't a raven the entire time. I mean the raven as a human was still pretty great, but I did really like the raven because he was cute and just a raven having the personality of a human was just amazing. This movie also gave me an appreciation for Vincent Price. I had never really seen him in a whole lot and this movie is/was the start of a Vincent Price era for me.

Score

I have to give this movie a 9 out of 10. I loved most of the movie. The twists and turns that this movie took were just so fun to watch and I don't think I've enjoyed a movie like that in a long time. I do think that the plot could have been a bit more clear. I mean they went there and were friends and the bad guy's motive didn't make too much sense. From the looks of it, he was already good at what he did so I don't understand why he wanted to steal the other guy's magic. It was just a really strange movie.

Where Are You, Christmas?

 

Why?

This movie looked interesting just because of the description. The picture above is also another reason that we watched this movie.

What in the world?

A woman wishes on a shipping app for Christmas to not exist and so it happens. This kicks the world into black and white and no Christmas. Oh there is romance in it as well.

Personal thoughts

This movie was very strange. The lady had to go around and remind people of Christmas with items since the word itself had completely lost meaning. It was so strange to hear people say, "I remember Christmas!" and then gain color. I don't know why Christmas not existing meant that there was no color. I mean in this universe what happens the rest of the year. Is there only color during the holiday season? I don't really care though.

Score

I have to give this movie a 6 out of 10. It was interesting enough to keep me entertained and the plot was very different. One thing I found odd though was the Santa app having the power to get rid of Christmas. One thing I found interesting was that she couldn't leave or communicate with the outside world. I don't know what was up with that. It might be the range of the app. It can only contain one town at a time. Who knows though because I highly doubt there will be a sequel.

Christmas Next Door

 

Why?

This one looked like a typical Hallmark where a guy doesn't like Christmas and then he does so we decided to watch it.

What in the world?

A man has to take care of his niece and nephew while his sister is stranded in Europe(more on that later). He ends up spending time with his Christmas loving neighbor and they fall for each other.

Personal thoughts

This movie was actually pretty funny. I genuinely laughed during this movie at what the movie said and not just at the movie. The kids in this movie were pretty good at being kid actors. They didn't sound like they were just reading off a script which was nice. The main lady definitely doesn't play violin though because her fingers never moved while she was supposedly playing. Oh and when she made up with the guy at the end, she gave her violin to a random customer at the restaurant she was playing at. WHAT THE HECK! That was such a weird thing for her to do. She didn't even take it back from the customer so it's all up to speculation what happened to her violin.

I have to give this movie a 5 out of 10. I mean the violin parts of the movie were absolutely atrocious but the rest of the movie was pretty ok. I liked watching the main character go insane because lawn decorations would just randomly show up to his house. He blamed his neighbor but it was actually his friend. I would have guessed the neighbor too so that was nice to be wrong. The fake snow was also really really bad. It would stick to their shoes like there was no tomorrow and immediately melt when they got inside. ALSO, they walls of these houses are really bad. They lived two doors down from each other and he could hear her play the violin. Oh my gosh move. That would be the worst. I can't even hear my next door neighbors let alone a house that is two doors down. Worst neighborhood ever.

A Shoe Addict's Christmas

 

Why?

I don't remember why we recorded this one to be quite honest but we did. It might have been the name.

What in the world?

A lady obsessed with shoes is visited by a ghost to tell her to change her present because her past could have been great. She also falls in love while organizing a charity event.

Personal thoughts

This movie was bland. I mean the fire department was kind of strange in this movie. The main lady was locked in the store she worked at which is where she met her ghost friend for the first time. While locked in this store, I look away for one second and the fire department shows up. I was very confused because they broke down the door and everything. I mean I don't know if that was necessary but that's what I remember happening. She also sounds like a crazy lady when she describes what happened and the only one that believes her is her friend. I don't know if I would believe my friend if she talked like that but good on her I suppose. 

Score 

I have to give this movie a 4 out of 10. It wasn't a bad movie per se but it just felt like it was lacking something. I also wasn't expecting to have to see what her present could have looked like. Who cares it's never going to happen because it can't. Why show me something that I don't care about because I can't obtain that. Very weird. Oh and to get to the past she has to wear shoes from that same day. The shoes were very ugly and they definitely could have done better.

Catch Me if You Claus

 

Why?

We had seen a preview for this during a different Hallmark movie and decided that we just had to watch it.

What in the world?

A reporter and Santa's son team up to help each other complete their early morning Christmas must dos. 

Personal thoughts

I actually thought this movie was pretty good. I mean it kept me entertained and it had twists and turns that I was not expecting. Example was the Santa crooks fixing their marriage. I understand that doesn't make much sense and it doesn't have to. Just know that the Santa crooks fixed their marriage. Side thought. I don't know why this wasn't a Hallmark Movie and Mystery. It definitely had mystery to it because that was the entire film. This movie featured embezzlement, kidnapping, burglary, and breaking and entering. It was a good mix of Hallmark and action in my opinion.

I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. It's one of the best Hallmark movies I have seen in a while and it was just the right mix of bad and good. The theater troupe in the movie deserves a shout out because they were plugging their Tony's pizza that they get for good reviews. I don't know if they sponsored the movie but Tony's pizza got a lot of honorable mentions.
